OK, it is time for EVERYONE to be accountable. This includes consumers. Here is one for the ages.
A few months ago a client came to us for a loan modification. After a couple of months or so we negotiated a good loan modification and like all loan mods, the lender was to send the documents straight to the client for signatures. Well, once the mod was approved, we called the client to let them know that the documentation was on its way in the mail but for some reason, the client would not return our call.
After several attempts we called the lender again to see if they had sent the documents because the client was just not returning our calls.
So guess what? The lender tells us that not only did they send the docs, but the clients signed and had already made their first payment. But it gets better....
A few weeks later the client comes into our office and asks for their money back because they did not get a loan modification. Little did they know, the lender had already told us what had happened and when I told the client what the lender had advised us, they looked down and did not know what to say. But I was not upset, just a little disappointed that someone would try and pull something like that on us after everything we had done for them.
No hard feelings, times are tough and sometimes people do things that they should not because of that. But at the same time, it is time for everyone to take responsibility for their actions and that also includes consumers. Everyone is responsible for this mess, some more than others. But when it comes down to it, everyone can share some of the blame. Let's stop being "victims" and lets stop focusing on the problem and more on the solution.
My point is, be accountable, be honest, deal with integrity and most of the time you will come out ahead.
